Media is well known for its capacity to negatively affect adolescent girls – to be harmful to their self-esteem and to limit their perceptions of their own potential.  But media also offers a host of opportunities to affect girls’ lives favourably by influencing behaviour, opening the door to greater participation in society and ensuring that girls’ issues move higher up on the public agenda.

So what are the barriers preventing these opportunities from being realised? And how can media interventions seeking to empower adolescent girls better achieve these goals?

Join the Overseas Development Institute and BBC Media Action at this panel event, to discuss the role of media in transforming girls' lives in the Global South.
